This page will favour the latest information regarding the game Tennikoit. The Tennikoit is a sport played by Western people and left behind in India. The origin of the game could be traced back to the time when ships were sailing around the world. For the sailors, this was one of the games to spend time on board when there were not many recreation facilities available during the voyage. It usually is easy to play when the ships are anchored. They renamed this game “DECK TENNIS.” Tennikoit has become a competitive sport, a less expensive but fast and thrilling game. The game has been played for many decades but was confined only to the Southern States, viz. Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. These states dominated the game for quite a long time. Tennikoit Federation of India was formed during the year 1965 with five member states.
In the 1960s, inventory measures were taken to organize the game national-wide, and in 2004, for the world bodies to bring this game international-wide, results in 1st world tenniquoits championship were organized by the Tennikoit Federation of India at Chennai with potential from Vellammal Education Trust.
In the same, after generation, it has been scrutinized by the intelligence and game seeker as the tennikoit in India, likely it is ring tennis in South Africa and tenniquoits in Germany as many as also. Both sexes can play this game together outdoors and indoors.
Tennikoit, also called ring tennis, is a game that involves hurling a rubber ring called a koit over a net. This is one of the few games that can be played either indoors or outdoors. There is a presence of both genders in this game. Two-player games are called singles and four-player games with two players forming a team are the doubles. Mixed doubles wherein one male and one female player form a team a part of a doubles game. World Tenniquoits Federation was founded in 2004 to control and spread Tenniquoits to more nations around the world as a competitive sport. Tennikoit is played in over 14 countries and the Tennikoit World Cup, which is conducted every six years sees fierce competition. The first World Championship was conducted by the Tennikoit Federation of India in 2006.
Initially, Tenni-Koit the Game was being played outdoors only, it may be played indoors also. This game is very flexible to the body. Compared to other games this game is an indigenous, economic, poor man's game with less expenditure, in a small space and with 2 persons can play. Badminton is being played with a Rocket about 1 Meter in length, Stretching is not required as much as in the Tenni-Koit game it is played with the hand to reach the Koit player's body has to stretch up to the Koit.
Mr Rama Murthy took the Charge of Secretary of T.K.F.I. from 1978 to 1987 to popularise the Tenni-Koit Game in Northern parts of India, he has organized demonstrations in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir etc. with 4 players from Hyderabad along with B.S. Nagaraj, one Press-Reporter Mr Willson of Deccan Chronicle English daily newspaper. With his influence in the Central Government, the Government of India Recognized this game on 19th August 1981, due to which we were able to get the Grants from Central Govt, Rly Concession as par with other games.
Tenni-Koit Federation of India was formed in the year 1965 in Hyderabad, It spread to all northern states of India, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh, The Late Mr. T. Rama Murthy has taken a keen interest to promote in this game, and he has conducted so many National Championships.
1st Senior National Championship for Men & Women was hosted in the year 1965, 2nd in 1967, 3rd in 1972, all at Hyderabad, In 1974 it was conducted at Yuvathmal, by then Vidharba T.K.A., Maharashtra.
1st Junior National Championship for Boys & Girls under 18 years conducted at Hyderabad, we got Rs. 10,000/- from Central Govt for the first time. (I have received the Cheque from the Post Office).
1st Sub-Junior National Championship for Boys & Girls under 14 years conducted at Trivandrum, Kerala.
India organized the 1st World Cup Tenniquoit Championship at Velammal International School, Chennai during the year 2006 under the dynamic leadership of our Executive President Sri M.V.M. Velmurugan. Dr S. Venugopalachary and Mr. B.S. Nagaraj were the President and Secretary-General respectively of the federation. The 2nd World Tennikoit Championship was held at Koblenz - Germany during the year 2010. Indian team returned with a Bronze medal from this championship. 3rd World Tennikoit Championship was held in Victoria – South Africa from 25th March to 6th April 2014. Under the Presidentship of Mr.T.S.Bisht I.P.S. and Mr.S.Laxmikantham Secretary General of T.K.F.I., Indian teams have participated in this championship. We hope the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports G.O.I., Sports Councils of various states, Sports Authority of India, School Games Federation of India and All India Universities will promote this game enabling it to reach greater heights in the sports map of our country. -by Laxmikandham
Under the Presidentship of Mr S.Venugopalachary Member of Parliament & Union Minister and Mr B.S.Nagaraj Secretary General, Indian Tennikoit Teams were invited to participate in the 1st International Youth Festival of Sports which was held at “S.Y.Z.R.A.N. - Russia” during 2001-2002. In April 2004, the Indian Tennikoit team took part in the triangular series that was held in South Africa and in May 2004, the Indian team participated in the test series which was held in Germany. Tennikoit is also recognized by the School Games Federation of India and has been included in their calendar of events for boys and girls under 19 years. The 1st S.G.F.I. nationals were conducted at Madhya Pradesh during 2011 followed by Chattisgarh during 2012.
Tennikoit Academy was started at Baba Sahib Nandurkar College of Physical Education at Yavatmal, Maharashtra, under the leadership of Dr. S. Prakash Nandurkar. Under the auspices of the Federation, Sub Juniors, Juniors and Senior National Championships are being conducted by members of various affiliated states every year. Even zonal championships, viz. North, East, West & South are being conducted by different zones of our country. So far 38 Senior, 32 Junior and 28 Sub Junior National Tennikoit Championships have been conducted at various places in our country. Tennikoit is also being played in other countries with different rules. S.A.A.R.C. Tennikoit Confederation was formed during the year 1996.
Now, the affiliation has risen to 29 states. With the unstinted efforts of our former Secretary-General Sri T.Ramamurthy and other office bearers of the federation, this game has been recognized by the Ministry of Sports, Government of India, Ministry of Education vide No.F-9-3/79 - D II (S.P.) dated 20.6.1981.
We have exhibited the game of Tennikoit being played in India for the last 50 years. We have got 29 states as a member of the Tennikoit Federation of India and as many as 10,000 players have been participating in various national-level events.

We have three categorized national events for various age groups, i.e., Sub-junior level of 14 and below, Junior of 18 and below and Senior No age bar. The game of Tennikoit requires a very small area, it is an economical game and fast game and attractive game.
The public response from our country is good and we have numerous spectators watching various championships at the national level. Tennikoit Federation is recognized by the Government of India, the Indian Olympic Association and the School Federation of India.
The cost compared to other games is very and It is called one of the most economical games in the world of sports. Friend I invite you to experiment and promote the game of Tennikoit is an International sport, Germany is the headquarters of the World Tennikoit Federation. India hosted the 1st World Tenni-Koit championships for Men and women wherein 8 countries participated, now W.T.F. has 13 countries as members Indian Teams visited Russia Germany and South Africa, to participate in the international events, again Indian Teams have been invited by South Africa to Participated in the Triangular Championship.
Tennikoit is a very economical, thrilling and fast game. Further, it is rural rural-oriented game; hence T.K.F.I. is trying to conduct various national-level events in taluk and districts in every state.
